Kino Konepaja cinema & bar.

Kino Konepaja is a cinema located in an old train factory complex in Helsinki.

As it is an independent cinema we created a unique space that has a strong recognisable atmosphere. Its distinct industrial ambience was achieved by using dark tones, warm lighting and exposing the old steel pillar and beam structures. A bespoke lit cinema marquee above the bar counter is a nod to early cinemas. A timeless space that feels like the cinema has always been there. A space for movie lovers to enjoy the films on comfy sofas with high-end visuals and sound, and a bar that invites to hang out both before and after the movie.
As designers we prefer using natural and recycled materials whenever possible. As Nevotex Margrethe is 70% recycled wool and has a great selection of colours it was a natural choice. It is also hard wearing as material durability is important in a public setting. Acquired vintage sofa and armchairs were restored and reupholstered with Nevotex's Margrethe wool in various shades. Nevotex Vintage Ranger Soft Anilina leather was used in the solid oak Framework sofa and armchairs manufactured by Soft-Kaluste Oy. This leather was a spot on choice with the solid oak frames as its lively texture complements the atmosphere of the space. The old draisines, previously used in the old train factory, were restored and converted into upholstered benches with the leather and wool cushions.
